Art Deco Festival, Napier, New Zealand
Do you love those Flapper dresses of the Roaring 20s? What about those bias cut dresses of the 30s? If you’re looking for an excuse to attend a function dressed in your 20s or 30s best and dance the night away, then the Art Deco Festival is for you!
Held every year in February in Napier, New Zealand, the event offers over 160 opportunities to dress up in your Art Deco best and wander about the streets of Art Deco buildings and cars, amoungst others similarly dressed creating a feeling of stepping back in time. It’s magic!
My partner and I had a wonderful time meeting new people, attending some events from the program for the weekend and shopping in the vintage stores. He bought more than I did, acquiring a 20s style waistcoat, a hat, braces and vintage bow tie. I was surprised by the amount of mens’ clothing available. Women had much to choose from as well, in shop after shop.
If your 20s dress is too delicate to wear out, I had a look at the beautiful and quality made 20s dresses on display made in Hollywood by LELUXE Clothing, their website is worth a look at leluxeclothing.com. They ship overseas.
All in all, the weekend was fun and exciting; going from event to event, dressed in our finery for evening and our 20s or 30s daywear to watch the vintage car and motorcycle parade, jazz in the shell on the beach and many other daytime activities.
If this sounds like you; book accommodation and buy your tickets early as they sell out fast. Tickets go on sale around October, but accommodation can be booked now in either Napier or nearby Hastings. For more information visit artdeconapier.com. You’ll love it!!
