Dancing Dixie is whisked off her feet by Keaton – A Vintage Styled Wedding by The Lindy Charm School

I’m always humbled when I am asked to be a part of a special day such as a wedding.  Being the Hair and Makeup Stylist is indeed but one important part of an epic day and I am fortunate enough to get to do what I love but it is extra special when I get to style a Swing dancer…
I get to combine both my loves.. Swing dancing and Vintage styling.. Thanks Dixie for seeking me out and engaging me to be your stylist for this momentum occasion.  Dixie is a Canberra “Jumptown Swing” Lindy Hopper who has a mean swing out on the dance floor!
I asked Dixie a few questions to share her journey with us….
How did you and Keaton Meet?
We used to work in the same precinct. We actually met when his restaurant’s fax machine was not working, and he needed to use the one at the hotel where I was working. It was a quiet night so I was “busy” working on a crossword. He helped me out with a couple of hard clues, we got chatting and the rest is history!
How did Keaton Propose? We found the antique engagement ring together whilst we were visiting Melbourne, and once it was resized to fit me (and he asked my dad’s permission – his idea!), he officially proposed after work, on a thursday night, on one knee, in our kitchen!
What were your influences for your wedding theme/style? We really wanted to do most of it ourselves as we have worked in the hospitality industry for so long that we know what we did and didn’t want! We wanted to keep it personal, and have an eclectic style of items, including crockery, glassware, vases etc. We collected things for months from op shops and antique stores. We used Australian natives for our floral decorations (set up by a friend of mine) and second hand items and furniture to keep with the relaxed family style gathering. We were trying to aim for a relaxed, Australian retro country style wedding!
You are swing dancers? I am but my husband isn’t (but he promises to learn one day!!)
What can you say to other couples about the extra layer of wonderful it is to dance with your love? Even though we don’t dance together, I can see with other couples it creates such a relaxed dance style, as they are comfortable with each other. It’s always great to have a dance buddy to practice with, go to dance festivals with etc. My parents are both dancers, and dancing for them is something that they have in common and love to do together, and you can see that in their dancing. It’s a great past-time!
Whats the best advice that was given to you before entered this wonderful institution of marriage? Marry your best friend! It doesn’t have to be perfect (as most things rarely are!) but comfortable, close, happy and full of love. And don’t base your relationship on others’ relationships – each one is unique and has it’s own story!
Any advice to others planning their big day to take some of the stress away from it? Accept the help of friends and family when offered (we wouldn’t have made it if we didn’t) and take some time out for both yourself and as a couple that is not wedding related, just to keep you sane!
Lastly, what did you choose The Lindy Charm School For Girls to be your MUAH stylist? I had heard of the Lindy Charm School from the swing scene, and really wanted a MUAH Stylist that knew vintage glamour. So after looking at the beautiful photos on the website, decided to make contact!
Thanks Dixie, Catch you on the dance floor!
