WOMEN who are a bit rough around the edges will have the opportunity to polish their personal style and shine like a diamond after a visit to “Charm School” in Darwin on August 16-17.
According to Lindy Charm School for Girls head mistress Chrissy Keepence, there isn’t a bogan who can’t be tamed and turned into a tea-sipping lady.
Ms Keepence will run a series of workshops over two days in Coconut Grove to teach women of all ages how to “find their inner beauty” and charm their way through life.
The Gold Coast-based businesswoman said the Territory was well known for its binge-drinking culture but “a line had to be drawn somewhere”.
“I’m from the Territory so I get how it works and I want to empower women and glamorise Darwin one pin curl at a time,” she said.
Ms Keepence said the classes would include lessons on manners, etiquette, posture, poise, charm and the art of vintage hairstyling and make-up.
“To be a charming person you have the ability to make someone feel good about themselves,” she said.
“To have poise means you feel good about yourself enough to be in control and feel eloquent and changing your posture and body language changes how you look, and that’s when you go from a bogan to a lady.
“Unless you open your mouth and say the wrong thing, that would defeat the purpose.”
Ms Keepence said the purpose of the workshops was to “remind women they’re worth being charming”.
Ms Keepence said she was inspired by the pin-up look and “old-fashioned glamour”.
“Some think you can’t be glamorous in Darwin but I know you can,” she said.
“It’s (hard for some women) to make an effort with themselves in Darwin because of the feral heat. But it’s about creating a new habit and making the effort.
“As soon as you step out your front door you’re judged; so you have the opportunity to put your best face and foot forward and be judged for that; don’t leave it up to others.”
