World Ovarian Cancer Day – A Cause Close to my Heart – You can help raise awareness therefore save lives… On 30th of April 2014 my little Sister died of Ovarian Cancer at aged 34. Elisha was BRCAII Positive and had a strong family history of cancer (my Mum died 1 year later) but still her symptoms were mis-diagnosed.. Ovarian Cancer is the deadliest of silent killers and the symptoms are very common for women so.. how do we know to look further into the problem? Persistent symptoms – Know the signs – and insist of ruling out the disease that can kill you first before looking into other causes of your symptoms… Get tested. Have the discussion and share the awareness.. Elisha’s journey and the awareness it raised saved so many lives and that was because of the heightened awareness. This acute awareness needs to be constant… 87% of women die of OVC today, treatment has not changed since 1970, funding has been halved in the last 10 years for research, 1 women dies every 7 hours in Australia from this disease… #knowaskact Here are the signs:
Abdominal or pelvic pain.
Increased abdominal size or persistent abdominal bloating.
Needing to urinate often or urgently.
Feeling full after eating a small amount.
