Sorry in advance if this opening is a little heavy, I felt like sharing today!
April and May are challenging times for me and our family as we move through that dates and times of the passing of so many in our family in such a short time to cancer at the same time as going through my own journey with this disease and the guilt associated with being the only survivor. It never really gets easier but the moments of reflection are definitely different each year. The heart and the mind and how it reacts and behaves to sorrow, pain and loss and indeed joy & happiness is fascinating. Each year as I get older I understand and feel more deeply than I did before. I find myself getting busy at doing what I love and pushing my own boundaries and giving more at this time than I used to and I think that is a coping mechanism that I have created (not intentionally but automatically) in order to prevent me from falling into a sorrow hole for those times! You remember them always but there seems to be a heaviness particular around these times.
What mechanisms to you put in place without knowing that helps you cope with life? It’s quite interesting to me how our heart, mind and body navigate when we can’t.
