A little act of kindness can change a persons day!

Simone has been through some tough times, relentless times and she has struggled but is definitely not broken!.  Simone has been living rough for a few months in a van from street spot to street spot after losing her home earlier this year.  Lately Sim has been sleeping in our Studio until something comes up, which looks like it could be as early as next week!.  Yesterday I asked her if she would like a freshen up?  We could organise a cut and colour for her hair and I could do a little makeover..   Sim has not been to a hairdresser for 20 years, never wears makeup,  lives in her trackies and runners..  Nervous, attached to her hair, fearful of change, I let her be and she pondered.  Sim said she wasn’t always like this and can’t remember how and when she started not to care about herself.

A couple of hours later, she came in and said let’s do it but we need to do it now!  Off to the supermarket for a packet colour and here’s where it get bit tricky… I’m not a hairdresser, can’t cut hair and didn’t have any scissors!

** Here is where I have to apologise straight up to all my hairdresser friends as you will gasp and grit teeth as you read on eeekk!  I’m sorry.. It was a on the spot moment/decision, now or never thing!**

First Aid Kit Surgical Scissors!  Packet Colour and some guts on her part allowing me to chop away!  I did say, if its terrible, we will get you an appointment asap with my hairdresser Amber from Collective Hair Southport!  HA! (Which we will do anyway!)

Chop Chop and a colour and when we dried it off, it looked amazing and Sim went to bed feeling fabulous/light/fresh and excited about the next day when we we’re doing her hair and makeup.

Up early and eager to get into it, she was nervous but excited and was giggling like a little girl all over again, it was a pretty special moment. When done, she looked in the mirror and said nothing, I’m like.. Oh O… she hates it!.. I said what do you think, what are you thinking?, she said she can’t speak and is trying not to cry as she doesn’t want to spoil her lashes (which she has never worn) or mess it up! When she gathered the tears and put them back in her eyes, she gushed, smiled and could not stop staring at herself.

The best moment for me was when I heard her say to herself….. “There’s that girl!!”

Some Good News: Sim will be moving into a share house next week and looks forward to getting healthy, strong and doing some volunteer work. You got this Girl!!
